Essential Kitchen Tools

As a baking nOOb and probably forever amateur, I’ve discovered a few things necessary to have in your kitchen.

Tools:

Stand-Mixer.  Yes, we know KitchenAid is the Mixer god to our lesser, more affordable demi-god friends like Hamilton Beach or Sunbeam (okay let’s face it, no one likes Sunbeam).  If you can afford it, go with the KitchenAid.  I will be upgrading my recently purchased Hamilton Beach model to a fancier version of the same one (equipped with a paddle and more functional dough-hooks) but ANY stand mixer will do.  Trust me, your arms will thank you.

Rubber Spatulas-  You know what I’m talking about.  The alternative to the wooden spoon your parents threatened to beat you with.  And the most satisfying way to scrape and lick brownie batter from the bowl.

Stainless Steel mixing bowls- In all sizes.  I only have four right now and I want more.  No, I NEED more.

Whisks, Spatulas, Mixing Spoons- Nuff said.  I don’t think I need to explain this.

Measuring Cups/Spoons- Glass and plastic.  Just trust me on this.

A Pastry Bag with Multiple tips- If you’re even going to CONSIDER adventuring into cookie baking, this is a must.  It’s not just for cake-decorating folks.  Trust me.  Plastic baggies just don’t do the trick, okay.  They just… don’t.

Baking Pans-  Of all varieties.  Doughnut, muffin, flat, recessed, bread (of several sizes), brownie, lasagne, square, rectangle, etc etc etc.  Any and every kind.  Anything other than a baking sheet I prefer pyrex, but just go with what makes you happy.  I will say that silicone baking mats are awesome, but the doughnut and muffin trays are a pain in the bratwurst and just… they’re not for me, thanks.

Ingredients:

Always have on hand, oil, butter, eggs, flour (cake, bread, and all purpose), cream of tartar, baking soda, baking powder, salt, sugar (brown, white, and alternatives), cinnamon, (if it’s fall, pumpkin pie spice), dutch processed coco powder.  If you’re feeling extra frisky keep on hand baking chocolate (the more pure the better) and chocolate chips.

If you keep these things, unless you’re making something specific (like banana or pumpkin or berry etc) you can pretty much whip up anything your little hearts desire.  ❤  ❤  Even if you have Timelord Hearts.
